Short hair.

"He liked her with long hair, so she cut it short."

Every time I do something to my hair it's because I want a brand new start. And no, I'm not just talking about the split ends, I mean a drastic change.

Three years ago I bleached my hair because I was sick of being told I'm Asian as fuck.
Two years ago I dyed my hair red because I wanted my hair to be as wild as my life.
One year ago I cut my long hair short because I fell in love and wanted to have a new start with him.
And just now I cut my hair short again for a fresh new start.

I'm gonna try to be poetic as fuck now: sometimes your hair is just like an unstable love-life.
Our long hair is so boring, we want something new. So we cut our hair and we love the new coupe, but after a while we would want our long hair back. So we let it grow and grow and we don't cut it for months. And after waiting for so long we finally reach our goal: long hair. We can finally do all the cool hairstyles we see in the magazines and on Pinterest. Yet then the struggle comes. It takes so long for our hair to dry, the split ends keep increasing and brushing the knots out is a complete mess. We're done with our long hair and we miss the benefits of short hair. It dries really quick, no annoying knots and we're free from the split ends. We want our short hair back. And after contemplating, we finally do it. We cut it short. Just like a brand new start.

Ring a bell yet?

Our long hair symbolizes relationships. Sometimes we get bored of our relationships, so we cut them off. Finally, we're single again and we love it. But then we see all those cute relationship goals and photos and we start to miss it. So we search and we search for love. And after waiting and searching for so long, we're in a new relationship. We can finally go on dates and take cute pictures with our lover. Yet then the struggle comes. The fights, jealousy, broken friendships. We're done with our relationship and we miss the single life. And after contemplating, we finally do it. We end the relationship.

We cut our hair.

But is this really what we want? It's an never ending cycle and this whole metaphor is inaccurate.
"Why did you write it then?", you may ask.
I felt like it.

There were so many ups and downs. Boy drama, school drama, broken friendships and overprotective parents. And yes, maybe I watched too much Mulan.
I wanted short hair.
I wanted a fresh new start.
I wanted to see my locks of hair fall to the ground with all the painful memories of that year to be later thrown away in the hairdresser's trashcan.
I wanted a new me.

Do I love my new coupe? Yes.
Am I gonna hate it in a couple weeks? Probably.
Will I let it grow or cut it short again? Only time will tell.
